Let’s get started.

Introduction to Dell Inspiron 14 Plus

The Dell Inspiron 14 Plus was released in 2024. It is a compact device and has a screen size of 14 inches. It is a high-end device in terms of price (starting at $1,099.99). Below is an image of this product that we've taken from the official Dell website.

There are different variants available for this device, and customers have the choice of choosing between processors, storage and memory options, etc., before making their purchase.

The Inspiron 14 Plus is different from the standard Inspiron 14 and the Inspiron 2-in-1 model.

  • The difference between the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus and the Dell Inspiron 14 is in the specs, display, and performance. The 14 Plus is better in all of these areas as compared to the simple Inspiron 14.
  • The difference between the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus and Inspiron 2-in-1 is that the 2-in-1 can function both as a laptop and a tablet, whereas the 14 Plus can only work as a laptop. It does not have any touch-screen functionality.

What are the different variants and versions of the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus (2024)?

There are two different variants that you can choose from when it comes to the Inspiron 14 Plus:

  • Inspiron 14 Plus 7440
  • Inspiron 14 Plus 7441

The defining feature of the 7440 variant is that it has an Intel processor. There are two different versions that you can pick from, based on the exact processor, memory, and storage options that you need. One version has the Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, and the other is the Ultra 9 processor. (We will talk about these in more detail in the upcoming section dealing with the specs.)

In the 7441 variant, the main difference is that the processor is Snapdragon instead of Intel. There are two versions that you can pick from in the 7441 variant, one of which has the Snapdragon X Plus processor, and the other has the Snapdragon X Elite processor.

Moving on with our review, we will be mainly talking about the 7440 variant with the Ultra 7 processor. Since this is the starting variant of this laptop, our discussion will be centred around that. However, we will mention the other variants and versions as well to ensure that you get the full picture.

Detailed review of the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus

Now let’s dive into the detailed review of all the specs and features that this laptop provides:

1. Processor

The first thing we’re going to talk about is the processor. As we mentioned in the table above, the processor in this laptop is a 13th-generation Intel Ultra 7 processor.

Many people can be a bit confused about the difference between an Ultra 7 processor and a standard Intel Core i7 processor, so let’s first address that.

What is the difference between a Core i7 processor and an Intel Ultra 7 processor?

The main difference between a standard Intel Core i7 processor and an Ultra 7 processor is that the Ultra 7 is made to be installed in smaller and thinner laptops. It is energy efficient and doesn’t create as much heat as a standard Core i7 processor.  However, it does not provide the same level of processing power as a normal Core i7.

Specifications of the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus processor:

Now, coming back to our discussion, the 13th generation Ultra 7 processor has the following specifications:

  • 24MB cache
  • 22 threads
  • 16 cores
  • 4.8 GHz maximum clock speed

What do we think about this processor?

The Ultra 7 processor is quite powerful for simple tasks like web surfing, editing, designing, writing, etc. It might have some trouble running heavier programs, but for most average household and office uses, it is quite good. As a digital marketer, you will be able to perform your tasks easily on this processor.

2. Graphics card

The 7440 variant of the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus comes with an Intel Arc graphics card. The exact model in this device is the Intel Arc A370M graphics card.

Below is an image that we’ve taken from this source. It shows the performance of the A370M graphics card when checked against the various DirectX versions and GPU Compute operations:

benchmark scores of GPU

Here is an analysis of the afore-mentioned specs:

  • For DirectX 9, the A370M works at 69 FPS, making it more than capable of handling older or less demanding applications without any worries.
  • When it comes to DirectX 10, the performance drops down to 23 FPS, which shows the struggle that this card can have with newer apps and programs.
  • DirectX 11 presents a more balanced picture, with the GPU managing 29 FPS, enough for a playable experience but not quite the smooth ride you might hope for in the latest titles.
  • The DirectX 12 results at 24 FPS highlight the GPU's limitations in handling the latest and most graphically intensive applications.
  • On the compute side, the 3014 Ops/Sec score for GPU Compute tasks indicates solid performance for computational workloads beyond gaming.

On the other hand, the 7441 variant comes with an integrated Qualcomm Adreno graphics card.

Both of these graphics cards provide an above-average and hefty performance. They can be used for mildly high GPU-intensive tasks, such as graphic designing and video editing. As a digital marketer, this sort of GPU is more than enough for your needs, and there are no complaints that you will have about this device in this department.

3. Memory

Moving on, let’s talk about the memory of this laptop.

In the base variant of the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7440, there is 16 GB of RAM, but you can elect for the 32 GB version as well.

Specifications of the RAM

Here are the specifications of the memory of this laptop:

  • RAM version: LPDDR5X
  • Date speed: 6400 MT/s

What do we think about the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus’s memory?

In 2024, some people may argue that 16 GB of RAM may be a little less for a laptop in this price range. However, we think that in terms of performance, 16 gigs can be more than ample for basic to moderately demanding tasks.

Currently, the laptop that we're using for writing this blog post right now has 8 gigs of RAM, and it works fine even if we have multiple Chrome windows and tabs open along with a dozen different background processes, etc. From our experience, therefore, we can save that 16 gigs can be just fine.

Of course, should you require more than this for more memory-intensive tasks, you can always buy the 32 GB version. As a digital marketer, however, there aren't a lot of such tasks that you may need to perform.

Note:Keep in mind that in the 7441 variant, only 16 GB of RAM is available.

4. Storage

The 7440 variant of the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus comes with 1 TB SSD storage. The 7441 variant, on the other hand, has three options, ranging from 256 GB SSD to 1 TB SSD.

If we talk about the 7440 variant, both the type and the amount of storage provided by the laptop are impressive. 1 TB of storage means that even with high-quality images or videos and heavy programs, you won't have to worry about the space running out. On the other hand, since the storage type is SSD, it is incredibly fast and snappy and does not have the inherent slowness of an HDD.

As a digital marketer, you can enjoy this large storage to store your marketing content files, images, graphics, etc., without a lot of worries.

5. Display

At the beginning of this post, we mentioned the main specs of the display. Now, we're going to look at each of those aspects separately and let you know what we think about them.

These are the details that we mentioned earlier.

  • Display size: 14 inches
  • Display resolution: 2240 x 1400 pixels
  • Display refresh rate: 60 Hz

Display size of the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus

The 14-inch display of this laptop takes it into the small and compact category. This display size can be great on its own if you want to do simple and everyday work. However, if you want to use the laptop for a proper setup, there is always the option to connect external monitors via the provided slots.

Display resolution of the Inspiron 14 Plus

The 2.2K resolution of this laptop makes the display very crisp and clear. The 2240 x 1400 pixels resolution can look great even on large monitors, i.e., 27-inch and 24-inch screens. But when it is provided on such a small area (14 inches), the quality becomes even better.

There is a version of the 7440 variant that comes with a 2.8K resolution instead, if you want to make the display even better and you don't mind spending some more money.

Display refresh rate of the Inspiron 14 Plus

The refresh rate of this laptop is quite standard. 60 Hz is commonly found in most laptops and mobile phones, and it provides a suitable viewing experience. What we would have liked to see here was 90 Hz or 120 Hz but considering the price and the other excellent features, the current refresh rate is understandable.

6. Battery

Moving on, let’s take a look at the battery of the Inspiron 14 Plus.

The battery in this laptop is non-removable. It is integrated inside the chassis. It is a 4-cell, 64 Wh battery that provides up to 9 hours and 20 minutes of battery life.

The Inspiron 14 Plus, like many other newer and modern devices, is charged via the USB-C port using a 100 W charger.

What do we think about the Inspiron 14 Plus battery?

In our opinion, the battery of this is very good. It is one of the outstanding and phenomenal features that we think have no downsides, and are an absolute win for this laptop. Since the battery can be charged with the USB-C, you don’t have to worry a lot about replacements. The battery timing itself is quite excellent. (Remember, the timing could be reduced a little if you use the laptop for heavier tasks.)

7. Keyboard and trackpad

The keyboard on the Inspiron 14 Plus is a standard English keyboard. It comes with backlighting, which can help with visibility in dimmer settings. The keyboard is 60%, which means that it does not have a num pad. This is, of course, to be expected, considering that the device is 14 inches.

The trackpad is made of Mylar and is quite large in proportion to the overall frame of the laptop. It looks similar to the trackpad that you get on Apple MacBook devices.

There are no physical buttons on the trackpad. You can simply press down on the left and right bottom parts. This is a common feature that you can find on most new laptops nowadays.

8. Ports and slots

Now let’s talk about the ports and slots that you can find on the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus.

  • You get 1 x HDMI port that you can use for displays
  • You get 2 x USD Type A 3.2 1st ports that you can use for connecting peripherals like your mouse and keyboard
  • You get 1 Thunderbolt 4.0 port that you can use for charging and for connecting displays/peripherals

What do we think about the ports and slots on the Inspiron 14 Plus?

The ports and slots on this laptop are quite ample. Thanks to the HDMI and USB ports, you can use it in your home setup as a workstation. In other words, you can connect your peripherals and a monitor and use it as a CPU instead of a portable laptop.

9. Dimensions and weight

Here are the exact dimensions of the Inspiron 14 Plus laptop. Carefully check the dimensions as well as the weight before making your purchase to ensure that it is according to your requirements.

Dimensions of Inspiron 14 Plus

  • Height: 1.6cm – 1.9cm
  • Width: 31.4cm
  • Depth: 22.6cm

Weight of Inspiron 14 Plus

The weight of the default and starting version of the Inspiron 14 Plus is 1.60 kilograms.

10. Other miscellaneous features

Apart from all of the amazing hardware features that this laptop has, there are a few other things that it comes with that make it an even better choice to buy. We’re going to mention them below:

  • The Dell Inspiron 14 Plus has a fingerprint scanner for secure logins
  • It also has 2 speakers on the chassis that run with Dolby Atmos Core and Waves MaxxAudio Pro.

Should you buy the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus?

If you can easily afford this laptop, it is definitely worth purchasing. The performance it provides along with all the amazing hardware features, coupled with its excellent portability all make it a great device.

On the other hand, if you don’t have the budget, you can look for a different product. You can look for an older laptop with a more reasonable price tag. We suggest taking a look at the MacBook 12in M7. It’s an older MacBook that has now been discontinued. However, it does have some great features and a solid performance.

And if the idea of buying a MacBook excites you, you can spend a similar amount of money as you would on a Dell Inspiron 14 Plus on a MacBook Pro M2 2022 instead. It is a high-end MacBook that came out around 2 years ago, and it is an all-around great device.

Final thoughts

Now let’s wrap it all up.

The Dell Inspiron 14 Plus is an excellent laptop in terms of performance. It has a great processor (which is true for all the variants) and has some solid memory/storage specs. The physical appearance of the laptop is also top-notch. It provides an excellent backlit keyboard and a decent number of ports/slots for connectivity purposes.

If we had to rate this laptop, we would say that it is an 8 out of 10.
